Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, is presenting the departmental budget policy speech, outlining a transformative vision for the province over the next year.

At the heart of the MEC's proposals is the Small Town Rehabilitation Programme, an ambitious plan designed to breathe new life into the province's struggling towns. The initiative aims to address pressing economic challenges faced by these communities and ensure they are not left behind in the wider economic recovery.

"We believe that every town has the potential to thrive; our role is to create the necessary conditions to facilitate this,” Buthelezi stated ahead of the address.

Alongside economic revitalisation, Buthelezi is set to unveil a new service delivery model tailored to fast-track essential services and assist municipalities in executing critical infrastructure projects.

This innovative approach aims to streamline processes and enhance the responsiveness of local governments, ultimately leading to better outcomes for residents. “Timeliness and efficiency are our watchwords as we seek to deliver services that uplift our communities,” he emphasised.

The MEC's speech will also reflect on significant achievements since he stepped into office.

Among these, the department has seen notable progress in traditional affairs, disaster management, and local governance, with strong collaborations that have fostered resilience and community-engaged leadership.
