Ramaphosa appoints Alistair Ruiters as Special Advisor on investment promotion
President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Alistair Ruiters as Special Advisor on Investment Promotion.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Alistair Ruiters as special advisor on Investment Promotion, as part of efforts to boost investment and drive economic growth in the country.
Ruiters is a former Director-General of the Department of Trade and Industry, where he served for 16 years, including five years in the department’s top post until April 2005.
He also holds a Doctorate degree from Oxford University and a BA Honours from the University of Cape Town. He has also previously served as Commissioner of the Competition Commission.

According to a statement released by the Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya on Wednesday, Ruiters "will advise President Ramaphosa on South Africa’s continuing investment drive which is a principal component of the 7th".
The statement further stated that the government was implementing a broad range of economic reforms aimed at making South Africa more attractive and rewarding for both domestic and international investors.
"Government is implementing a broad range of economic reforms aimed at rendering South Africa more attractive and rewarding for domestic and international investors; advancing greater diversification of the economy, and broadening South Africa’s integration into continental and global supply chains," Magwenya said.
The appointment of Ruiters follows Ramaphosa's decision two weeks ago to name former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas as his special envoy to Washington, as part of efforts to repair South Africa’s deteriorating diplomatic and trade relations with the United States.
