Mother arrested after baby's body found in Steenberg Field
A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder following the discovery of her infant's body in Steenberg, Cape Town.

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of her 10-month-old baby, whose body was found dumped in an open field near Steenberg High School.
Police were called to the scene in Verde Road, Steenberg, just after 2pm yesterday after a passer-by discovered the baby's body. It is understood that the woman later handed herself over to the police.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyle confirmed the arrest saying: "“Steenberg police registered a murder case following the discovery of the body of a 10-month-old baby infant on March 6 2025 at about 2pm at an open field, Verde Road, Steenberg. " A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. A 33-year-old female was arrested for a charge of murder.
He added that the case will be transferred to Wynberg Family Violence, Child Protection Sexual Offense unit for further investigation.
Details of the shocking incident have yet to be revealed including the gender of the child.
Steenberg Community Policing forum chairperson Nicola Small said they were aware of the incident but could not comment at this stage.
“As you are aware, it is very fresh and as it unfolds, we will release a statement,” she said.
