A resident of Redcliffe, KwaZulu-Natal, confronted a potentially life-threatening situation when he discovered a Puff Adder—a snake notorious for its lethal venom—lurking between the safety of his security gate and the threshold of his home. Recognising the danger, the resident contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.
Upon receiving the call, RUSA Area Manager, Nkosinathi Ndaba, was swiftly dispatched to the scene.
According to a statement from RUSA, Ndaba arrived to find the Puff Adder coiled and motionless, embodying the stealthy threat this snake species is known for. With a steady hand, Ndaba safely captured the creature, ensuring the resident’s safety and alleviating the immediate concern for the neighbourhood.
Post-capture, Ndaba transported the now-contained Puff Adder back to RUSA headquarters for a thorough inspection. Staff members examined the snake for any potential injuries, showcasing the diligence of RUSA in their duty of care, not only for residents but also for wildlife in distress.
The Puff Adder, vulnerable and fearful, was then seamlessly handed over to Ndlondlo Reptile Park, where it would be cared for and monitored in a safe environment.
