Depardieu's son jailed for DUI

Versailles, France - The son of French film star Gerard Depardieu was sentenced on Thursday to two months in jail for driving a scooter while drunk, judicial officials said.

Guillaume Depardieu, 37, who is himself an actor, was not in court to hear the verdict handed down in Versailles west of Paris. His lawyer said he would appeal the decision.

The actor was four times over the legal alcohol limit when he was stopped in February in the western Paris suburb of Bougival, on the way home from a party.

The prosecutor had called for a three-month jail term, arguing Depardieu had been caught up in a string of drunk-driving incidents and had already received several suspended sentences.

Depardieu lost his right leg in 1996 as a result of a hospital infection developed after a motorbike accident.
