The photographer is David Beckham.
The subject is his wife Victoria and their baby daughter Harper Seven.
And the pride is evident in his simple caption: “I took this picture of my two girls sleeping.”
The 36-year-old footballer posted the black-and-white picture on his Facebook site yesterday, allowing the latest addition to the family to be viewed by millions. At the same time his 37-year-old wife placed a photograph of Beckham with their fourth child and first daughter on her Twitter site.
In the snap, Beckham is touching noses with the newborn, who is wrapped in a blanket and wearing a small hat. Underneath the photograph the former Posh Spice wrote: “Daddy’s little girl!”
On Saturday evening, Beckham played a friendly match for his club Los Angeles Galaxy against Real Madrid, one of his former clubs.
As has been his practice following the birth of each of his children, the new arrivalÕs name was stitched into his boots. Harper’s name appeared beneath her brothers Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and six-year-old Cruz.
However this time his white boots were trimmed with pink. He wrote: “Check out my boots for the Real Madrid match. A little extra stitching needed from now on ... “
The pastel footwear failed, however, to bring him luck - with Galaxy crushed 4-1 by the Spanish giants.
Baby Harper arrived eight days ago by caesarean section, weighing 7lb 10oz. Her mother subsequently Tweeted: “Harper is the most beautiful baby girl I have ever seen, I have fallen in love all over again!!! We all feel so blessed and the boys love their baby sister so much!!!”
And Beckham said: “To have another girl in the family is really incredible.
“We have three beautiful healthy boys already, we’re so lucky to have that, and now to have a beautiful little girl. Having a daughter is a whole new thing, having pink in the house, lilac in the house.
“You have to be a lot more delicate with girls than with boys - I’m not used to that. It’s a whole new experience, but an amazing one, to have that little bundle of joy in your hands, making her little noises, opening her eyes, it really is an incredible moment for us.”
He also spoke of the reason for naming their child Harper Seven.
“A lot of thought goes into our children’s names and Harper was a name that we’ve loved for a long time for a couple of reasons,” he said.
“One reason is Harper’s an old English name which we loved and one of the other reasons was Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill A Mockingbird and the author was Harper Lee. It’s a very strong, passionate book. That’s where Harper came from.”
He added that with Seven, “a lot of people just assumed it’s just because of my shirt number, which I wore for many years.
“But it’s not the main reason. The other reasons behind Seven were because it symbolises spiritual perfection - the Seven Wonders of the World and seven colours of the rainbow and in many cultures around the world it is regarded as a lucky number.” - Daily Mail
