“I know there’s no greater feeling than the love of the family.” Just reading that line probably brought the theme song of "7th Heaven" back to your head, didn’t it?

That melody is still living rent-free in many of our memories."7th Heaven", which aired on SABC 2 at the time, was the after-school comfort show for a whole generation.

Whether you were dodging homework or snacking on your last slice of bread, the Camdens somehow became part of the family.

The series ran for an impressive 11 seasons since it first aired in 1996, making it the longest-running family drama in television history at the time.

It followed the lives of the Camden family, headed by a minister father and his loving, no-nonsense wife, as they raised their seven children through all the trials and moral lessons of growing up.

The show wasn’t afraid to dive into serious topics either, touching on everything from peer pressure and addiction to faith, family values, and forgiveness.

The Camdens didn’t have all the answers, but they tried, and that mattered. Those soft fade-outs at the end of each episode, often laced with a life lesson, were classic.

"7th Heaven" became a staple in many households, especially in the late 90s and early 2000s. It gave us drama without being overly preachy, and characters like Lucy, Simon, and Ruthie felt like extended family. For many, it was a weekly family gathering just with the Camdens on the telly.

Now, more than two decades later, there’s talk that the show might be making a return.  A revival is in development at CBS Studios, with "Queen Sugar’s" Anthony Sparks attached as writer.

Sparks is known for crafting emotionally rich stories centred around Black families, so this new take promises depth, heart, and maybe even a modern twist on the Camden world.

What’s more, original cast member Jessica Biel, who played eldest daughter Mary Camden, is expected to executive produce the revival through her production company. Deals are still being finalised.

Stephen Collins, who portrayed the fatherly Reverend Eric Camden, made headlines in 2014 when he publicly admitted to inappropriate sexual conduct with three underage girls between 1973 and 1994.

The revelations led to the removal of "7th Heaven" reruns from networks and effectively ended Collins' acting career.

There’s still no confirmation on whether other cast members like Beverley Mitchell (Lucy), David Gallagher (Simon), or Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie) will return, but fans are already speculating.

Will this be a sequel? A reimagining? A next-gen Camden family? Only time will tell.

For now, "7th Heaven" still holds a nostalgic place in people’s hearts. And if done right, the reboot could offer a comforting (and more conscious) family series for a new era.
