Surely, most of us have wondered how actors manage to pull off sex scenes without bursting into laughter or cringing themselves into another dimension.

You’re half-naked, surrounded by crew, and pretending someone who isn’t your partner is the love of your life. Sounds ... deeply awkward, right?

Well, according to Jennifer Lawrence, it definitely can be until you start dancing. The Oscar-winning actress recently opened up about filming steamy scenes with Robert Pattinson for their upcoming psychological drama "Die, My Love".

The film, directed by Lynne Ramsay, is based on the novel by Ariana Harwicz, and follows a woman battling severe mental illness while trapped in the role of housewife in rural France.

It’s intense, layered, and clearly not shy about getting up close and personal.

Lawrence and Pattinson play the central couple, whose relationship spirals in disturbing ways. So naturally, there were intense sex scenes involved

But the secret to making those intimate scenes work? Embarrassing dance classes.

“She had us do dance lessons before we started shooting,” Lawrence told "Brut". “Which was so humiliating and embarrassing.”

Despite the initial cringe, she admitted it built an "instant trust" between her and Pattinson, and “helped a lot.”

"Then on our first day of shooting," she added with a laugh, "We were naked, attacking each other like tigers."

Now that paints a picture.

Jennifer Lawrence says the secret to steamy on-screen chemistry with Robert Pattinson was dance classes.

Pattinson has his own take on the experience, saying: “You think it can't get more embarrassing and they're like, 'Now, do it naked.'”

He also admitted that the dance classes were probably a good idea. “Because if we didn’t like each other, then it becomes increasingly more awkward [as production continues].”

And no, there was no fluffer on set. In porn, a fluffer is someone whose job is to keep performers aroused between takes. In Hollywood, thankfully, things are a little more... choreographed.

However there is the intimacy coordinator, a role that’s become increasingly common (and necessary) on film and TV sets.

Both actors credited the presence of an intimacy coordinator for making things feel safe and professional.

If you’ve been hearing that term a lot lately, here’s why: since the rise of the #MeToo movement, having an intimacy coordinator on set has become standard for scenes involving physical contact, nudity or simulated sex.

Think of them as stunt coordinators, but for physical and emotional safety in sex scenes. They help plan the movements, ensure consent, and make sure everyone feels comfortable, while still serving the story.

“It’s not just to feel secure sometimes,” Pattinson said. “I think directors sometimes are a little bit scared to say, like, ‘Your body looks weird in this angle.’ And if you have someone else whose specific job is to say, ‘Just move a little bit in this direction,’ you’re gonna like it more.”
