Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter VI' is here: A star-studded return to his legendary series

Lil Wayne’s highly anticipated album, “Tha Carter VI” is finally here and it is packing iconic artists as features.

American rapper Lil Wayne has finally released his latest album, “Tha Carter VI”, marking a significant return to his legendary album series after a seven-year hiatus.

The 19-track project showcases Wayne’s signature flow, genre-bending versatility and fearless evolution, featuring an all-star lineup of producers and artists.

Talking to Rolling Stone’s Andre Gee, Wayne revealed that his collaborators stand out on the new release because he pushed boundaries.

“If there’s one thing about this album that’s different, it’s me approaching it like, ‘Man, what would I sound like on something with such and such?’” he said.

The album boasts an impressive track list, with features from notable artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Bono, Jelly Roll, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, MGK, Wyclef Jean, Kodak Black, and even his sons, Kameron Carter and Lil Novi.

Standout tracks like “Loki’s Theme” and “Island Holiday” demonstrate Wayne’s continuous ability to seamlessly blend styles and collaborate with artists from different genres.

The release of “Tha Carter VI” was teased by the “6 Foot 7 Foot” hitmaker in a commercial that showed him at different ages posing for the cover artwork of each album in the Carter series. As it continued, some of his most popular songs from throughout the eras play in the background.

To celebrate the new album and the 20th anniversary of the “Tha Carter” series, the 42-year-old rapper is embarking on a 34-city North American tour starting on June 6, the album release day.

The Carter VI Tour kicks off at Madison Square Garden in New York City and wraps up in West Palm Beach, Florida, with special guests including Tyga, NoCap, and Belly Gang Kushington on selected dates.

“Tha Carter VI” marks Lil Wayne’s first solo studio album of entirely new material since 2020's “Funeral”, which featured a wide range of collaborations. With this latest release, Wayne proves he’s legendary status and that he is still at the top of the rap game.

With the album dropping, his day one fans have been buzzing with excitement, taking to social media to share their thoughts and critique.

X user @RiaSpitz commented on her love for Wayne, stating: “One of the things that makes me love Lil Wayne so much is his beat selection & production. Always unique and unexpected. You ain’t never in your life heard someone from Young Money and think it was just another record that sounds like everyone else.”

While @BBzndatrap commented: “I don’t think y'all understand how much I love Lil Wayne! He’s the reason I fell in love with hip hop before I was even introduced to Nicki . Maybe it’s a southern thing but he is the King of Rap in my eyes 🤷🏽‍♀️”

Of course there were some unimpressed fans who felt that the album is disappointing.
