Alicia Silverstone is set to step back into her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in the eagerly anticipated reboot of the classic 1995 teen comedy, "Clueless".
Silverstone took to Instagram to share the news of the project with nostalgic photographs and a caption that read: "Totally buggin’… in the best way 💁♀️✨(Swipe to see why 😉)."
Silverstone starred alongside the late Britney Murphy as Tai Frasier. Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya rounded off the cast.
The film is a loose adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel "Emma".
The film introduced audiences to the trials and tribulations of Cher, a beautiful, popular and wealthy student played by Silverstone, who navigates adolescence while attempting to perform good deeds for others.
She befriends newcomer Tai and decides to give her a makeover while playing matchmaker for her teachers and examining her existence.
The movie developed a cult following and continued its legacy with a spin-off television series, which ran for three seasons, and a series of books.
Not much information about the reboot has been shared, however an online report reveals that the series will be written by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage along with Jordan Weiss.
Silverstone will executive produce in addition to starring. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film and Robert Lawrence, who produced the film, also serve as executive producers.
CBS Studios will produce in association with Universal Television.
Since her breakout role, Silverstone has achieved notable success in Hollywood, appearing in films such as "Batman & Robin," "Blast from the Past", and "Beauty Shop".
Upcoming projects include collaboration with acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos on the film "Bugonia" as well as the Acorn TV series "Irish Blood" in which she also serves as a producer.
The announcement has sparked a wave of nostalgia among fans, eager to see how Silverstone will once again embody her beloved character.
