EVER fancied yourself having the plush bedroom, dining room and living room furniture you’ve seen on M-Net’s TV series The Wild?
Well now you can.
The coffee-coloured Chesterfield couch, the patio set, a cream fabric lounge set and a Wingback single-seater chair are just part of more than 70 items from the show’s set that will go to the highest bidder at an auction held by auction house Aucor in Midrand on Saturday.
The show – which began airing two years ago – is filmed in high definition and stars some of the industry’s big names, and is set on a game farm. It has just 22 more days until its hour-long finale is aired.
M-Net announced that the show was to be cancelled last year after production costs to shoot on set for each episode proved too high and viewer ratings were disappointingly low.
On the issue of the auction, Lari Lombard, M-Net’s head of communications, explained yesterday: “Once all M-Net television productions come to an end, there are standard procedures in place regarding all the assets that have been acquired by the series.
“First, the company redeploys these assets – from computers and electronic equipment used behind the scenes to set furniture and props to other M-Net productions.
“Thereafter, the remaining goods get donated to charities, offered as competition prizes or, in some cases, auctioned off.
“Via different mechanisms, the public have been able to collect furniture, props and other memorabilia from TV shows like Egoli, some kykNet dramas, various seasons of Big Brother, and Survivor SA,” said Lombard.
On the same day, there will also be a supplementary auction of vehicles that aren’t from the series.
Also to go under the hammer this year will be the Dying Swan, a painting by Vladimir Tretchikoff, one of the most commercially successful artists of our time. The painting will be auctioned off by Strauss & Co on May 20.
