Cape Town’s beaches are more than just postcard-perfect—they’re vital to our marine life, community wellbeing and environmental health.
This Sunday, May 18, the Hout Bay community is taking action to protect this our coastline with a family-friendly beach clean-up at the Mariners Wharf slipway from 9:00 to 11:00am.
Hosted by Rawson Atlantic Seaboard, in partnership with C&A Friedlander Attorneys, the clean-up is supported by local eco-champions Oceans Alive, Friends of the Rivers of Hout Bay, and BlueBay 2030.
Together, they aim to tackle pollution head-on, clearing plastic waste and micro-debris that pose serious threats to seabirds, marine creatures and fragile kelp forests.
The morning promises more than just picking up litter. It’s a chance to give back, meet like-minded locals, and show younger generations how to care for the environment.
Little ones will be kept motivated with spot prizes and eco-themed giveaways.
"Keeping our beaches clean is about more than looks—it’s about protecting biodiversity, livelihoods and the future of our oceans," says Rawson Atlantic Seaboard, which hosts regular clean-ups to support the local community and environment.
Bring gloves, sunblock, a reusable water bottle and your enthusiasm—bin bags will be provided.
Whether you're a Hout Bay local, a visitor, or just someone who loves the ocean, your participation can make a real difference.
Let’s roll up our sleeves and help keep Cape Town’s coastlines clean and thriving.
