'Shrek the Musical' and more: upcoming theatrical delights in Durban

Durban's vibrant arts scene is in full swing this May, with a stellar line-up of theatre productions set to captivate local audiences.

"Shrek The Musical"

Join Shrek and his loveable sidekick Donkey as they embark on an action-packed adventure to rescue Princess Fiona from a castle protected by a fearsome dragon.

This stage adaptation retains all of the fun with an exceptionally talented cast and infectious musical numbers. 

Where: Milkwood Theatre at Danville Park Girls' High School, Durban North.

When: Currently on until May 4.

"My Fellow South Africans"

The production is a satirical take on contemporary South Africa. Created by Mike van Graan and starring Kim Blanche Adonis, the production combines comedy, singing, poetry and drama through sixty minutes of high energy and focus.

"My Fellow South Africans" has resonated with audiences across the board, touching on nerves with which many in our country can identify.

When: May 8 - 9.

"Vincent" 

The life and art of Vincent van Gogh is presented in a dazzling new light. The multimedia musical tells of a complex man with a ruthless drive to create and a deep-seated desire to love and be loved. It shows his search for love, through reimagined versions of popular musical theatre, pop, rock and jazz numbers.

When: May 10.

"The King of Broken Things"

The production is a journey into the broken heart of a young boy, a journey of discovery through his experiments, projects and creations.

Through his love for discarded objects, this production teaches us the importance of reparation and how all things, seen and unseen, can be mended, creating new things from old, where the rehabilitation of things broken and discarded gets to include people and hearts.
