Durban - Masterchef SA winner Roxi Wardman is about to open her promised patisserie and coffee shop in Durban – but the location is a secret for now.
Wardman is keeping the location under wraps, but promised that very soon Durbanites would be able to have a taste of her culinary creations.
“We have decided to have some fun and run a Facebook competition where people can guess the location of my place until we launch in the second week of June,” Wardman said.
She said it would be called Spoonful Eatery.
“It will be a very relaxed place where you can come and sit and enjoy cakes and cupcakes. But be warned if you are on a diet – this is a place to treat yourself,” Wardman said.
She recently got engaged to her boyfriend, Byron Maclou, and while the two have not yet set a wedding date, Wardman will be in charge of making her own wedding cake.
“I love making desserts, and I’m so passionate about quality and taste that this is what I will be offering in my patisserie, and I will definitely be making my own wedding cake,” she said.
Wardman and MasterChef SA judge Benny Masekwameng were at Suncoast Casino giving the audience a cooking demonstration, using coffee and chocolate as ingredients, to coincide with the Coffee and Chocolate Expo
Masekwameng said that the fact that three MasterChef SA winners hailed from Durba proved that people in the city definitely knew their flavours.
Deena Naidoo, Kamini Pather and Wardman are all from Durban.
“I think Durban is not rated very highly when it comes to cuisine and places to eat out, but people in Durban like to cook, and they experiment, so they know their food,” said Masekwameng.
While another MasterChef SA TV series is planned for later this year, Masekwameng keeps busy by developing new recipes, conducting cooking demonstrations, and working at VIP functions.
Also present at the cooking demonstration was 23-year-old Tsepo Mchunu of Durban, who will soon be seen on national TV screens when he aims for the title of Ultimate Braaimaster.
He, together with his braai buddy Ntando Phungula, was shortlisted for the show after judges tasted his beef fillet with lamb chops, pap and chutney sauces.
Filming begins next week, but the locations have been kept secret from the contestants.
