As we enter 2025, the world of interior design is poised for a shift.
Interior designer Kate Fuller has shared her insights on the home decor trends that are losing their appeal and will likely be left behind in 2025.
From kitchens to flooring and furniture, here are the three trends Fuller says are on their way out.
All-white kitchens with black accents
Once a staple of the farmhouse aesthetic, all-white kitchens with black accents have dominated homes for years.
However, Fuller believes this trend has run its course.
“This became super popular in the farmhouse era, and now it’s overplayed and very generic,” she explains. “2025 is the year of colour.”
Homeowners are increasingly embracing bold, vibrant hues and warm, earthy tones to inject personality into their spaces.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring
Luxury vinyl plank flooring, or LVP, has been a popular choice for its affordability and ease of installation.
However, Fuller is not a fan. “I will never stop complaining about the use of LVP flooring. It’s low quality, it always buckles, and it’s not as durable as they try to sell you,” she says.
Fuller is not a fan of LVP flooring.

Mirrored or acrylic furniture
Mirrored and acrylic furniture has been a go-to for achieving a sleek, modern look.
But according to Fuller, this trend is losing its lustre.
“In my opinion, it always looks a little dirty, a little dusty. I don’t really like how it’s styled nowadays. Too trendy for me. I’m ready for more antique looks,” she concludes.
As maximalism and vintage-inspired decor gain traction, Fuller anticipates a resurgence of antique and handcrafted furniture pieces.
