Many women opt for subtle rejections to avoid awkwardness, preserve the guy’s feelings, or even out of fear of an aggressive reaction.
Of course, clear communication is always ideal, but not everyone feels comfortable being brutally honest.
While these lines may seem polite or vague, they usually carry an underlying message: "I’m just not into you."
If you’ve ever heard any of the following phrases, it might be time to take the hint and move on.

“You’re such a great guy…”
This classic line is usually followed by something like "but I’m not ready for a relationship right now" or "someone will be lucky to have you." This is a nice way of saying that you’re a nice guy but just not for her.
“I’m really busy lately.”
If she consistently claims to be "really busy at work" or "going through a lot right now," but you notice she is still going out and being socially active, she’s most likely trying to decline gently without outright rejection.
“Let’s just be friends.”
A straightforward, yet still subtle, way of saying she enjoys your company, just not in a romantic way. If she emphasises the "friends" part, take it at face value.
“I don’t want to ruin our friendship.”
Similar to the above, this suggests she values the connection you have but doesn’t see it turning into anything romantic.
“I’m not looking for anything serious.”
While some people genuinely mean this, if she says it after you’ve expressed interest, it often means that they are not looking for anything serious with you.
“You deserve better.”
This is a gentle way of saying she doesn’t see herself as the right match for you. It’s a soft rejection wrapped in a compliment.
“I’m just focusing on myself right now.”
A diplomatic way of saying she’s not interested in dating. Or it can simply mean that she doesn’t want to date you specifically.
“I’m not good at relationships.”
This can be a genuine concern, but when used as a response to your advances, it often means she doesn’t want to pursue anything with you.
