Another Brazilian national found with cocaine worth R1.9 million strapped to torso at OR Tambo airport

A 44-year-old female Brazilian drug mule has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after landing from Sao Paulo on Thursday.

This is the second suspect from Brazil to be arrested with cocaine this week.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the recent suspect was also found with cocaine worth R1.9 million wrapped around her upper body.

Mathe said the woman faces a charge of drug trafficking and will appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate soon.

On Sunday, a 24-year-old Brazilian male drug trafficker was arrested after he was found with more than three kilograms of drugs wrapped around his body.

"This is the second drug trafficker to be arrested with cocaine wrapped around their upper torso this week," said Mathe.

The man had landed at the busy OR Tambo airport from Sao Paulo.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said the drugs were later confirmed to be cocaine with an estimated value of R1.8 million.

Police have arrested 14 suspects on charges of drug trafficking at the airport, in recent weeks.

In October, three people, including two Dutch traffickers, were found with 80kg of Khat.

In the other arrest, a 43-year-old from Paraguay was nabbed after landing from São Paulo

Police said the man had ingested multiple foreign objects, suspected to be cocaine.

The man was rushed to hospital after suffering a health complication. He had released around 20 of the cocaine-filled bullets he had ingested.

"OR Tambo International Airport police continue to sniff out drug traffickers as they land sending out a strong message that SA is not a playground for drug peddlers," said Mathe.
