Durban -

A brave Durban woman managed to break free from her rapist’s stranglehold by grabbing his penis so tightly that it wounded him.

The man, writhing in pain, could barely move when police found him on a pathway in Cato Manor on Sunday night.

By then the victim - the 19-year-old sister of the man’s friend - had run to a nearby house for help.

A police source said on Monday that the 22-year-old man had been drinking alcohol with his friend and his friend’s sister in Cato Manor before the incident happened.

After a few drinks the man asked the woman to take a walk with him. Along a pathway he forced her to the ground and began raping her, the source said. She grabbed hold of his private parts and squeezed so hard that he was injured.

Unable to escape because of the pain, he was arrested when police, alerted by the woman, arrived.

The man was taken to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital where he received three stitches to his wound.

The woman was taken to the district surgeon for a police medical examination.

She was uncomfortable speaking about her ordeal, when the Daily News contacted her this morning, but said the man had taken advantage of the fact that they knew each other through her brother.

“I didn’t expect him to do that to me. We are from the same area and he knows my brother. He suggested we take a walk home.

“He acted as if there was nothing wrong with what he was doing. I grabbed his privates and held on for dear life,” said the woman.

She said she had another appointment for a check-up at Addington Hospital on Tuesday.

Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said Cato Manor SAPS was investigating a case of rape.

Zwane said a man was expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
