Durban - One of the biggest stress factors for grade 12 pupils is managing the overwhelming expectations surrounding them as they wait for their results.
Despite the disappointing drop in KwaZulu-Natal matric results, some grade 12 pupils in the province did their level best to receive the marks that they worked hard for.
Kyle Naidoo from Northwood Boys High School made his mother very proud, achieving straight A's.
Kyle's mother, Chelliah Naidoo said that she was expecting him to do well because he had great influence from his older brothers who also did exceptionally well in matric.
“I have always told him to put in more effort in everything he does because that would guarantee him great outcomes,” said Naidoo.
Kyle said that he worked very hard and that he was expecting great results.
“I have always been an A student”, he said.
Kyle was accepted at Wits University for Mechanical engineering and Actuarial science and said that Mechanical engineering was his first choice.
Krisendran Kristen said his matric year was full of ups and down, he received a Bachelor's Pass. Kristen said that he enjoyed all the difficult exam papers especially Physical science.
“I am glad it went well.
“I expected it to be more stressed than I feel now,” he said.
He added that although he was accepted at UKZN to study Science of Architecture, he might take a gap year or register in the second semester.
“I feel like I need a little break, its been a long journey of hard work”.
Kristen said that he is happy that his parents feel confident in his future.
Ntobeko Sibisi was feeling down for not achieving the results he had aimed for.
“I aimed for straight A's but got one A, four B's and one C”.
He said he was disappointed but happy that he passed.
Sibisi gathered with other matriculants in Kwamashu around 11pm and walked to a nearby garage.
“We were so happy that we woke our parents up around 1 am”.
Sibisi's uncle, Lwazi Dlamini said that they were planning a surprise for Sibisi because he made them very proud.
“We knew he would pass because he had so much confidence and that's a sign that he knew what he was doing,” said Dlamini.
He added that Sibisi must go to university and fly the family flag up high.
“He must forget about being popular and remember that passing matric is just the beginning”, Dlamini said.
Sibisi will be studying Bcom Entrepreneurship at the University of Pretoria.
