Suspects caught cutting copper bars from hijacked truck

Officers found four men cutting copper bars from a hijacked truck’s load in Putfontein.

Four men aged between 41 and 54 were arrested in Putfontein on Wednesday, May 7, for possession of stolen property.

According to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), members of the Intervention Unit, working with other law enforcement agencies, responded to information from a tracking company about a hijacked white UD truck. Using tracking coordinates, officers located the abandoned vehicle on Kingsway Road. The truck had no occupants and its load was missing.

EMPD said, “Upon investigating, information was received about where the load could be.” Officers followed up at a residence on North Road, where they found four men allegedly cutting copper bars that had been on the truck.

The suspects were caught in action cutting the copper bars,” said the EMPD. Officers arrested the men on the scene and took them to Putfontein police station.

EMPD members tracked a stolen truck to Kingsway Road and made arrests on North Road.

They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of stolen property.
