Spectacularly entwined with Baltic bay, waterways and islands, Helsinki is repeatedly voted as the “Happiest Country in which to live.” My recent short visit was indeed an eye opener.
We started our tour at the main market square Kruununhaka. With the giant ferris wheel and a view of Uspenskin Katedraali, the Orthodox Cathedral with its gleaming gold onion domes.We enjoyed a typical lunch of pumpernickel bread laden with delicious toppings, lots of fresh seafood of course, and washed down with bubbly.We attended service at The Church of The Rock, the Temppeliaukion Kirkko. It’s an amazing enormous art nouveau place of worship with extraordinary acoustics.Cutting edge art and downtown sidewalk cafes.The Helsinki Art Museum inside Tennispalatsi showcasing 20 th and 21 st century Finnish artists. The incredible Sibelius Monument stands proudly in the leafy waterfront Sibelius Park .This striking sculpture was created in 1967 by artist Eila Hiltunen to honour Finland's most famous composer . Its 600 steel pipes evoke a sound wave in their formation..Scenic waterscapes and rich flora make outside walks pleasant and relaxing.The city is spotless as expected and edgy in design and style.
