An ordinary banana taped to the wall sold for a mind-boggling R112,235,193 and the person who bought it proceeded to eat the fruit.

That amount of money can buy close to 100 less than average homes in South Africa.

The banana was part of an art piece called 'Çomedian' by an Italian artist named Maurizio Cattelan.

Who has this wild amount of money to spend it on a piece of fruit you might ask, well, a cryptocurrency entrepreneur of course.

The Chinese businessman Justin Sun was the one who flexed his pockets with the unbelievable purchase.

Sun, 34, ate the banana in front of dozens of journalists and influencers after delivering a speech describing the work as 'iconic' and drawing comparisons between conceptual art and Bitcoin.

"It’s much better than other bananas... It's really quite good," the billionaire said after biting, savouring and swallowing the once again ordinary fruit.

Surprisingly, Sun wasn't the only one who wanted his wealthy hands on the banana. He had to bid against other rich people with a taste for such unique 'art'.

Sun claimed he was in astonishment for the first 10 seconds after winning the offer before recognising that this might be a major deal.

In the following ten seconds, he opted to consume the banana.

"Eating it at a press conference can also become a part of the artwork’s history," Sun told those who were present.

Sun is also a big fan of US present-elect Donald Trump. He recently announced an investment of R542,968,500 in World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency business endorsed by Trump.

However, Sun also has trouble with the law. In 2023, the US Securities and Exchange Commission accused him with issuing and selling unregistered securities in connection with his cryptocurrency project Tron. The investigation and case against him are still ongoing.
