Join the creative journey: Art murals coming to Chapel Street, District Six

District Six residents and other stakeholders have been invited to a series of workshops about art murals at City facilities along the historical Chapel Street. The project builds on the District Six Public Realm Strategy that was finalised in 2022 in collaboration with the District Six community. At the workshops, representatives from the City’s Urban Planning and Design Department will collaborate with residents on themes and ideas for the proposed murals to be painted on City owned facilities along Chapel Street. The murals will facilitate pedestrian movement between Trafalgar Park, New Hanover Street and the CBD. "We invite all residents and in particular current and former residents, as well as friends of District Six to attend these workshops. "The murals will be based on the ideas and stories that are shared at the workshops and to be interpreted by an artist through a brief. The intention is for these murals to inspire and educate those driving or walking past. "This is a great opportunity to contribute to a very visual and striking project that has the potential to make passersby pause, reflect, and be moved," said Deputy Mayor and mayco member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews.
