Beloved South African theatre company KickstArt Theatre, in a vibrant partnership with the Baxter Theatre, is set to mesmerise Cape Town this winter with its award-winning pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. Running from 3 to 27 July 2025, this delightful production promises a magical theatrical experience for families, friends, and theatre enthusiasts alike.
After nearly three decades of captivating audiences in Durban, KickstArt Theatre aims to establish a cherished new tradition in the Mother City. With shows scheduled on Tuesdays to Sundays throughout the school holidays, this pantomime invites families to swap screen time for story time and enjoy one of Cape Town’s most enchanting seasonal activities.
This year’s production, directed and written by the acclaimed Steven Stead, boasts the creativity of a talented team known for their work on South Africa’s iconic productions such as My Fair Lady and Beauty and the Beast. With the aesthetic vision of three-time Fleur du Cap winner Greg King, Jack and the Beanstalk will blend classic storytelling with toe-tapping music, uproarious comedy, romantic subplots, vibrant costumes, and magical sets to create a giant spectacle that appeals to audiences of all ages.
The cast features celebrated talents, including Waterfront Theatre School graduate William Young as the adventurous Jack, Roshanda Lewis gracing the stage as the melodious Princess Jill, and Blessing Xaba, known for his role in Spud, delighting audiences as Jack’s resilient mother, Dame Flora Flatbroke. They are joined by a stellar ensemble including Bryan Hiles, Brent Palmer, Liesl Coppin, Lyle Buxton, and Samantha Landers, ensuring an impressive performance that is not to be missed.
