Get ready to embark on a thrilling adventure. The Drama Lab is thrilled to announce its annual theatrical offering for 2025: Disney's Aladdin Jr., a magical retelling of the beloved 1992 film. This production that promises to captivate audiences with nostalgic, singable tunes and a heartfelt story, performed from Friday 9th May to Saturday 17th May, 2025, at Table View Primary School.
Directed by the talented Julie Dickson, with choreography by the Fleur du Cap award-winner Bethany Dickson and musical direction by Raé Swart, the show features a cast of 45 passionate young actors. Audiences can expect a fresh and engaging adaptation tailored to younger audiences while still delighting all ages. The classic tale follows Aladdin, a street rat, as he falls in love with Princess Jasmine and discovers his true self with the help of the iconic Genie of the Lamp.
This family-friendly production will take place in the warm atmosphere of Table View Primary School, located at Merriman Road, where young thespians have found a home for both rehearsal and performance, thanks to the school's generous support. Julie Dickson, the founder of The Drama Lab, is excited about the opportunity to bring the theatre experience closer to the community, encouraging residents to witness the incredible talent of their youth without having to travel into Cape Town.
“The cast is eager to showcase their hard work and creativity, with extensive efforts put into costume, set, and prop design,” mentions Dickson. The collaboration of these young performers with experienced creatives aims to ensure an extraordinary presentation that transforms the venue into an enchanting world where good triumphs over evil.
Tickets for performances are available from only R144, with matinee shows scheduled for Saturday, 10th May, Sunday, 11th May, and Saturday, 17th May.
