POLICE are investigating a case of murder after a Mitchells Plain woman was shot and killed outside her home on Friday evening.
Officers were called to the scene before 7pm and found the body lying on the ground in Lentegeur.
While details surrounding the incident remain unclear, reports indicate that the victim was shot just as she got out of a vehicle parked outside her home.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said: “At around 6.40pm, a 23-year-old female was shot and killed by an unknown suspect in front of her residence in Deacon Road, Harmony Village, Lentegeur.
“The circumstances are being investigated and the suspect is yet to be arrested. The motive is not yet known,” he said.
The chairperson of the Lentegeur community police forum, Byron de Villiers, said the normally quiet street had been shocked by the incident.
“(The victim) got out of the passenger side of the car before opening the gate. The car she was in proceeded to drive away, and a guy came and shot her and ran away,” he said.
The grieving family did not want to speak to the media about the ordeal.
In an unrelated case, Zikhona Maphasa was shot dead at her liquor store on Sunday in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, as she was about to close the shop in the afternoon.
The suspect allegedly turned the gun on himself afterwards.
That incident took place two days after the lifeless body of pregnant 20-year-old Zahraa Muller was found about an hour after she left her home in Heathfield.
Her mother, Nuri Africa, told Daily Voice at that time that she had received a chilling phone call from a stranger telling her where to find the body of her six-months-pregnant daughter.
“It was a man. I do not know the voice. I was shocked when he told me to fetch my daughter in Olieboom Street, Philippi. I ran to my neighbour and told him about this. He spoke to the man and he gave directions.
“I knew something bad had happened. I had so many questions because Zahraa’s phone had a pattern lock, so it was strange that someone had managed to unlock her phone and call me,” Africa explained.
